Wasp Nest Removal Eccles

Eccles is really two jobs in one postcode, and the split runs roughly along the railway. North of the town centre, Ellesmere Park is a conservation area of around 110 acres holding somewhere between 450 and 500 properties, about a third of them Victorian — tall detached and semi-detached villas standing back in their own grounds on tree-lined roads that were originally laid out as private, gated avenues. West and south, Patricroft and Winton are tight terraced streets built for the foundry and the railway, where the roofs run straight on over the party walls. Same M30, same fixed price, very different work on the day.

Where we find nests in Eccles

• Deep eaves and bargeboards on the Ellesmere Park villas. The three-storey houses along Half Edge Lane, Westminster Road, Ellesmere Road and Clarendon Crescent have overhanging eaves, decorative timber bargeboards and slate roofs with lead valleys. Once a bargeboard end lifts, a queen has a dry, sheltered void to work with.
• Coach houses, garden stores and old outbuildings. A lot of the larger plots still have their original outbuilding at the end of the drive. Left undisturbed from one summer to the next, they are the most reliable nest site in the conservation area.
• Shared terrace roof voids in Patricroft and Winton. On the streets off Liverpool Road and Parrin Lane the roof space carries on over several houses, so the wasps you can see going in above your gutter may well be sitting over next door’s back bedroom.
• Boxed soffits and airbricks on the inter-war semis. The pebbledashed 1930s semis around Winton and Peel Green have boxed-in soffit returns and vented cavities. A gap of a few millimetres at the corner is plenty.
• Banks and embankments. The Bridgewater Canal towpath between Monton and Patricroft, and the railway embankment near Patricroft station, are full of old rodent burrows that ground-nesting wasps take over. These are the nests people find with a mower rather than by looking up.
• Hedges and mature trees. Tree wasps build exposed papery nests in the beech and privet boundaries around Monton Green and the roads off Monton Road. They look alarming and are usually the quickest treatment of the lot.

Terraces, and why the neighbours matter

On a terraced street we will always ask whether anyone either side has noticed wasps on their own frontage. The nest itself is rarely more than a metre or two inside the entry point, so treating the hole you can see is normally enough — but knowing the colony straddles two roofs saves a second call-out. You do not need to find the nest yourself. The flight line in and out of one fixed point tells us where it is.

Fees and payment

Any wasp or hornet nest in Eccles is £60, fixed. That is the lot — the visit, the treatment, and a free return if there is still activity after a couple of days. A villa off Half Edge Lane costs the same as a two-up two-down in Patricroft, and evenings and weekends are not charged any differently. Bumblebee nests are £70, though we will usually tell you to leave one be if it is out of the way.
