Wasp Nest Removal Rusholme

Rusholme fits two very different kinds of building into one postcode, and wasps do well in both. East of Wilmslow Road sits Victoria Park, a conservation area since 1972 and roughly 140 acres of what was Manchester’s first planned suburb — 1830s detached villas standing in their own grounds under a heavy canopy of lime, beech and sycamore. West and south of it, the streets around Thurloe Street, Walmer Street and Claremont Road are tight red-brick terraces, most of them now student lets and shared houses. The villas give a queen one enormous, complicated roof to disappear into. The terraces give her a hundred identical ones in a row.

Where we find nests in Rusholme

• Valley gutters and bargeboards on the Victoria Park villas. Upper Park Road, Lower Park Road and Conyngham Road are lined with roofs carrying several gables each, deep timber bargeboards and lead-lined valleys. Every junction between two roof planes is a dry, sheltered gap, and after that many winters most of them have opened up somewhere.
• Subdivided lofts along Anson Road and Daisy Bank Road. Where a big house has been split into flats or bedsits, the roof void usually still runs the full width of the building. The hole the wasps are using is often nowhere near the nest itself, which is why we follow the flight line instead of guessing.
• Coach houses, gate piers and boundary walls. The old outbuildings and high brick walls behind the Park hold nests in air bricks, weep holes and behind loose coping stones.
• Terrace soffits and rear alleys off Wilmslow Road. Boxed eaves, rotten fascia ends and the brick bin stores in the back alleys around Thurloe Street. Buddleia and bins in a shared yard keep foragers close to the house all day.
• Trees and hedges by Platt Fields and Birch Fields Park. Tree wasps build the exposed grey papery nests you see hanging in a hedge or off a low branch. The grass banks and old rodent burrows along both park edges also produce ground nests from late July onwards.

You do not need to find the nest before you ring. One point on a roof or wall with wasps going in and out in a steady line is enough, and we trace it from the ground when we arrive.

The £60 fee and what it covers

Every Rusholme wasp nest is £60, fixed. That covers the visit, the treatment and a free return if anything is still flying a couple of days later. No call-out charge, no ladder charge, and no premium for an evening or a Sunday. Hornet calls change nothing either, since a hornet colony belongs to the same family and falls under the same £60.

For rented property the booking can come from the landlord or the letting agent rather than the tenant, and we confirm back once the nest has been dealt with. Plenty of M14 houses stand empty from June to September, so a colony that started in a loft in May is only noticed when somebody moves back in and finds wasps in a bedroom. Those are the ones worth authorising the same day rather than leaving until the weekend.
