Prestwich has Heaton Park along one flank, and that single fact drives more of our M25 work than anything else. Roughly six hundred acres of woodland, grassland and picnic lawns press directly against the gardens of Sheepfoot Lane, St Margaret’s Road and the streets off Bury Old Road, so the park feeds wasp colonies on a scale no ordinary suburb manages. Entry tends to be at a soffit corner or beneath a lifted ridge tile. Closer to the Village, the Edwardian terraces near the Longfield Centre and off Rectory Lane carry older and softer rooflines, where a slipped slate or a shrunken fascia joint does the same job.
